Review: Frédéric Nogray

Nelki CD (Perle Records)

Subtitled "Music For Singing Crystal Bowls", one of the first things to point out about this CD is that it was engineered by Eric Cordier who specializes in capturing site specific resonance recordings. Nogray's hands performing with the bowls is audible but that is only faint in comparison to the actual center frequencies produced. Slowly oscillating mid-range waves swell and interfere in harmonically constructive ways, this is music for meditation or maybe sleep. The intent seems so pure that there is little to say in terms of composition or development, there is only the bowls... focus on the bowls. I am going to meditate now.
